2014 was a poor year for me with them as two of my favourite sites managed to mess things up.
The first was Dooyoo, a review site that I used to love, and which paid well. Sadly though they suddenly decided to change the site drastically, and they made it almost unusable. I still can't log in on my old macbook and writing reviews on my ipad is quite painful. I did write a few more reviews, but only so that I could get the extra couple of pounds I needed to cash out. I will say though that the site did pay me, and if I could get on to it with a laptop I would consider going back. Although the drastic change and lack of communication or care for it's users meant the place emptied overnight. What always puzzled me about it was they said they did it to make the site mobile friendly, but after the change it worked worse on my ipad.
The second site was Bubblews, a revenue sharing site which encourages people to write anything they like, so long as it's in english. Bubblews was asite I absolutely loved, and I still post on it as there are some great people on there. Sadly on New years eve they suddenly realised that they had promised to pay more than they could afford, and they decided to retrospectively cut everyone's payments. This was money people thought was earned, and they were just waiting for Bubblews to pay it. Needless to say it made a lot of people angry and bitter, and the place is a shadow of what it was. Again the problem came down to a lack of communication and respect for their users. I find it a bit easier to forgive them (even though I lost 80 dollars), if not forget because they are a young company who have great ideas, but not necessarily the business skills to go with it. They've created a great user friendly site, but whether they have the skills to make it survive is another matter.
I will say that despite these two sites, I'm a member of another about 8 sites which have paid out despite me barely using them, and I do think people can make a lot of money online, although it's not for everyone.
So what are my thoughts on money making sites?
Well from a user point of view you should never rely on one site, should always cash out when you can, and shouldn't count on the money until it's safely in your own account.
For online sites out there, learn to communicate with your users, sometimes they will hang around if you just admit you've messed up.
